The ongoing race for the permanent US House speaker is likely to further delay the progress of cryptocurrency legislation. A tight contest between Rep Steve Scalise of Louisiana and Jim Jordan of Ohio continues, leaving Patrick T McHenry of North Carolina as a temporary Speaker of the House. McHenry is considered friendly towards the crypto industry and heads the House Financial Services Committee. However, he is unable to focus on crypto bills until a permanent Speaker is in place. During the vacancy, his staff may be able to push forward bills, or delegate vice chair of the House Financial Services Committee French Hill.
