Arnie once acted out a scene as Hamlet in the Last Action Hero. He can do everything and even make people laugh till their stomach hurts.

Schwarzenegger again made the audience laugh out loud at the Graham Norton Show where he was accompanied by celebrated actress Dame Judi Dench. 

Arnold Schwarzenegger stunned by Shakespeare’s sonnet

British talk-show host Graham Norton started speaking about how Shakespeare influences everything. The conversation went to his dialogues that explain all situations in life. While this conversation was going on, he requested Dame Judi Dench to recite something and the brilliant actress brought out a sonnet of Shakespeare’s from her memory and recited it fluently.

She narrated Sonnet number 29 which spoke about comfort with a familiar person. After her beautiful recital ended the environment became quiet and somber but Arnie quickly made it lighthearted and made everyone laugh. He was visibly impressed by her narration but also awestruck at the length of the sonnet.

He very casually said, “There’s more dialogue than I had in my movies altogether.” As soon as he said this everyone burst out into laughter. After this ordeal, Graham asked The Austrian Oak that he was also a part of a Shakespearean scene.

Arnie recalled that he had done a scene from Hamlet where he said the dialogue of, “To be or not to be.” Then ended it by saying, “Not to be,” while the castle behind him burst into flames.

He talked about the Last Action Hero in his book Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story.

Arnold Schwarzenegger starred as the fictional LA Police Detective Jack Slater in McTiernan’s sixth directorial Last Action Hero. The movie was like a story within a story and even had Arnie play the role of Hamlet.


In his autobiography
Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story, Arnold Schwarzenegger talks about the movie Last Action Hero in Chapter 20. Arnie already had blockbusters under his belt but this movie flopped with the audience despite the many promotional strategies they employed.

Schwarzenegger wrote, “We licensed seven kinds of video games, a $20 million promotion with Burger King, a $36 million “ride film” to go into amusement parks..NASA picked us to be the first-ever paid advertisement in outer space.”
