It was a frustrating end to the day for Rory McIlroy at U.S. Open on Sunday as he finished just shy of a win behind Bryson DeChambeau.
After carding a one-under-par on Sunday, McIlroy finished the weekend at five-under-par, a stroke behind DeChambeau.
The most frustrating moment of the day came at the 17th hole when McIlroy was tied with DeChambeau. McIlroy had a seemingly easy putt ahead of him but missed just wide to fall behind DeChambeau, ultimately costing him a chance at the win.

After McIlroy came up short, fans trolled the veteran golfer for recording a bogey on three of the final four holes.

It somehow happens in more heartbreaking ways every time. I don’t even know how to describe this feeling.

The only thing that seemed certain was that Rory McIlroy had surely already experienced the worst possible way to lose a golf tournament. And then today happened.

It is my right, as a father, to spend this entire day watching Rory McIlroy shoot whatever score is required to finish two shots behind the U.S. Open winner.

After failing to win on Sunday, McIlroy has now had six consecutive top-10 finishes without a win at the U.S. Open, just one away from tying the record for the most consecutive top-10 finishes without a win.
It has also been 10 years since his last win at a major—his last two wins coming in 2014 at the PGA Championship and the Open Championship. He will have one more chance to win a major this year as he participates in the Open in July, and he’ll be hoping to have better luck then.
