Joyner Lucas revealed he scrapped an upcoming “experimental album.” The Massachusetts native posted a lengthy note to his Instagram on Thursday (Nov. 2) to explain his decision.
Lucas’ message was directed at his fans and explained what the hold-up has been over the past two years. While he did say he completed the LP “about five months ago,” the rapper began second-guessing himself after receiving unfavorable criticism. Joyner also explained that the work felt “a little too left field” with features from artists his fans “wouldn’t want to hear him with.”
“After hearing some of your feedback on a few joints I decided to scrap the album and restart over again and that’s what I been doing,” the “Ramen & OJ” artist admitted. “So now I am creating the album in real time, and I’m constantly adding to it. I’m listening to your opinions on what you don’t like and what you like, and I’m scrapping things and replacing them with other things that I know you will love.
“I know you’re frustrated with the wait and I apologize. I love going against the grain and doing things in an unconventional way. I wanna say I love and appreciate everyone of my supporters who have been supporting me. Thank you for all the continued love and for going so hard for me. Pause. ♥️❤️ I’m going to continue to release records at random until I feel like it’s complete. I promise when I drop I will leave a lot of unreleased records on there. In September, Lucas announced a separate collaborative project with Will Smith. The 35-year-old entertainer took to IG and revealed he would be helping his “hero” make his musical comeback.
“Dear hero. I never thought I’d ever meet you,” Lucas typed. Still trips me out that I grew up idolizing you, to then me making a record about my admiration and respect for you, to then you asking me to create a whole album with you. HAPPY BIRTHDAY @willsmith. Love you til the end of time my dear brother.”
