Heart of Stone Could Get a Sequel—and Become Netflix’s Latest Major Action Franchise

preview for Heart of Stone - Official Trailer (Netflix)

Netflix has a wealth of original programming across all genres, but the streamer’s action offerings are some of the best of the bunch: think films like Extraction, The Gray Man, and The Old Guard. They all have intriguing storylines, incredible casts, and of course, nonstop action. But if you’ve watched all of these, and are looking for a new favorite, we suggest watching Heart of Stone.

The spy action movie follows secret agent Rachel Stone, played by Gal Gadot, as she embarks on a mission to protect the “Heart,” a device that’s able to keep track of anyone’s online history and then use that data to predict what they might do in the future, including their probability of committing a crime.

Even though it’s just been released, the heart pounding movie is already a hit amongst viewers, which is, of course, leading to questions about whether there will be a sequel. Netflix is already planning a third Extraction movie, and The Gray Man has potential for a sequel as well—so it’s actually not far-fetched to think Heart of Stone might get its own follow-up. Here’s what you need to know.

Will there be a Heart of Stone sequel?

Netflix hasn’t officially announced a sequel yet, but Director Tom Harper did tell Entertainment Weekly that he hoped this would be the first of many Heart of Stone movies.

“There’s plenty that I’d like to explore more with Rachel [Gadot’s character] in that regard. There’s plenty of rich territory with Rachel, with the Heart, with the Charter. Ultimately we have to see how well it does and see how people like it, but I’m excited about it.”

What Would Heart of Stone 2 Be About?

Heart of Stone 2 could follow the same format as the original film, with Rachel trying to keep the powerful Heart out of the hands of evildoers.

There’s also the possibility that the franchise could decide to go with a more ongoing narrative that follows a unified story, picking up where things leave off, rather than retreading the same waters as the first time. Either way, we should expect Gadot, Jamie Dornan, Alia Bhatt, and Sophie Okonedo to reprise their roles as Rachel, Parker, Keya Dhawan, and Nomad, respectively.
